Anne-Louise Hoffmann OPEKTA ATELIERS KRISENSKULPTUREN Tobias Becker and Astrid Piethan The current situation of quarantine forces us to withdraw into our own four walls. The homeliness of one’s own space, after a time of forced confinement, is not a gift, since it is always formulated in correspondence to the outside, which has suddenly fallen away. The homely is taken away from the familiar and living spaces slowly become blurred with internal worlds of thought. No conclusion can be found, since there is no end. Unteathered thoughts take over in this everyday life that has gone out of control, they stand as speculative objects in the room, charged but without direction. The modelling of negative moulds in clay is an act of searching. One works blindly, attention entirely focused on the sense of touch, which is experiencing a strange renaissance these days. The gestures of this search are manifested in the plaster cast. They become tangible as sculptures, but do not explain themselves. On the contrary, they carry an uncontrolled life of their own because they enter into a dialogue with the space that surrounds them. As unpredictable actors, they infiltrate everyday rituals and courses of action and thus fuse physical and psychological space. More informationen at: www.krisenskulpturen.de

SMART NATURE Opening: SAturday, 9th of June, 7 pm Duration: 9.06.-11.08 2018, Opening Hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 2-6 pm, Thursday 4-8 pm,, Saturday 11 am -3 pm Today, in the early 21st century, nature appears to us no more as the wild, untouched and unknown side of our society. Today nature has literally been made legible, programmable and usable. Many things today seem to have been artificially awakened to new life - also and especially in nature. But where exactly do the new boundaries between artificial life and inanimate nature lie today? What fantasies are embodied in a dead piece of plastic grass? How can alum, an inorganic salt compound, suddenly be transformed into images of artificially produced growth? In their works, the participating artists question the changing concept of nature in different ways. They often work at the interfaces between artificiality and nature and reveal how our relationship to nature has shifted as a result of the aesthetic experience of artificial growth processes. "smart nature" does not formulate a vision, but a reality that has become artificial creation and makes many things seem possible. DRAWN TO AFFECT Opening: 19th November, 5-7 pm Show dates: This show offers an experimental platform for a group of 7 artists for whom drawing plays an important role. Each artist has invited someone else (artist / writer / scientist / architect etc) to respond to one of their drawings - be it a sketch, a resolved work or a part extracted from another project. The purpose of these pairings is to explore the dialogue that takes place when a drawing is translated and re-formed.
